A HANDPLANE WITH A HEAVY OR LIGHT SOLE ?

There are two ranges of RALI handplanes :

  • the professional version with it sole in steel plates, known as “heavy”
  • the version for occasional use with it sole in “light” or “one-piece” folded sheet”

Heavy sole

  • Good inertia for planing hardwoods or knots.
  • Chipbreaker adjustment (on planes to be planed) for perfect roughing and finishing.
  • Light adjustment for planing green wood (reduces clogging).
  • Supplied with 3 extra bi-cutting blades (4 bi-cutting blades in total), for frequent use.
  • All parts are replaceable, as the tool can be disassembled to replace parts.

Light sole

  • Lightweight, easy-to-handle tool.
  • The chipbreaker is locked in a universal position, allowing all types of planing (so it won’t get out of adjustment if you don’t know how to use it).
  • No possibility of adjusting the light, due to the single-block sole.
  • Supplied with a bi-cut blade, engaged in the plane’s iron holder, for occasional use.
  • Parts cannot be replaced, as it is the one-piece soleplate that permanently clamps the parts together during factory assembly.
